Samantha Villegas is an accredited strategic communications professional with nearly 25 years of experience helping corporations, nonprofits, and government agencies to develop and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with the people on whom their success depends.
She began her career on the agency side, developing and executing marketing and outreach campaigns for local and federal government clients such as EPA, the Department of Justice and the Department of Treasury. Then, Ms. Villegas went in-house to lead the external affairs function for two different water utilities, one local, public authority and one national private company.
Since 2012, Ms. Villegas has provided strategic public relations and communications services to a variety of corporate, government and nonprofit clients as an independent consultant.
Ms. Villegas has served in several regional leadership positions. She was the 2013 president of the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She has led and chaired various regional government committees of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Nationally, she has served on the Public Affairs Council of the American Water Works Association and was a charter member of the steering committee for the Water Leadership Institute. Samantha currently serves on the Board of PRSA, the nation’s largest trade organization for public relations professionals, where she oversees the fiscal and strategic direction of the Society.
Samantha is accredited in public relations by the Universal Accreditation Board. She holds a Master’s degree in environmental policy from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Penn State.
